Lyrics.

Talking Washington Blues

Well it’s hot her in the summertime and hot here in the summertime too
Well I don’t know about you but I am feeling blue
You gonna talk about your past it’s going to tell you what to do

Well I don’t know about you but I think I’m feeling good
Well I don’t know about you but I think I’m feeling good
And them senators are they doing what they should

Chorus
They’re all talking heads talking Washington blues

What did you do did you run off with a senators’ wife?
You think you’d get away with that for sure?
Maybe you stole the church funds too…

Chorus

Do you know what I did last night? I drove all the way up to Washington to sit
Down with the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, and do you know what he said to me?
He said
Son “if I was president today, I build a road from sea to shining sea and walk
With my brothers and sisters in hand, in unity, together one nation under god
with liberty
And justice for all.”

Tell me the truth did you kill a man?
I’d like to think you doctored the evidence it’s the romantic in me
I’d like to think you’d come up with a sinister lie
But you’re a public official you know what to do

Chorus
You’re a talking head talking Washington blues
They’re all talking heads talking Washington blues

100 years

I read once when its gone you can never have it back and people will
Try to take your boat….don’t give up just yet
won’t you let me lighten your load
Why don’t you follow me down?

Chorus:
I’ve seen the light…. shinning like a star
Where will we be 100 years from now?
Will that rose still smell or will our dreams fade away
What will they say about us 100 years from now?
100 years from now

Will that song remain the greatest song un-told
Or will it vanish like letters in the sand?
Will we keep searching those foolish philosophies or the great unknown?
Or will we dwell on the mysteries in the past?

Chorus

Going down again

I’m going down again
I’m going down again
Burned my bridges yesterday now I am lost
I’m going down again

I’m going down again
I’m going down again
Young man is foolish old man is twice as strong
I’m going down again

I’m going down again
I’m going down again
Burned my bridges yesterday now I am lost
I’m going down again

I’m going down again
I’m going down again
I’m going down again

Dark Side of the Road

Running away from what I don't know
Keeping me from the dark side of the road
Your loves like a flower in the springtime my dear
Keeping me from the dark side of the road
Lay me down in a field where the bluebonnets bloom
Keeping me from the dark side of the road
In my times of weakness you stood by my side
Keeping me from the dark side of the road

CHORUS
Lights in the distance and trouble lay behind
The road to nowhere begins to unwind
Once I was blind and now I see
What all your love has meant to me, what all your love has meant to me

SOLO

Troubled from  the beginning and troubled from the start
Keeping me from the dark side of the road
You stand like an angel underneath a bed of stars
Keeping me from the dark side of the road
Follow me back to the cabin where the muddy river flows
Keeping me from the dark side of the road
You are the sun you just fill me with warmth
Keeping me from the dark side of the road

CHORUS

Jack O Roe (traditional  music arranged by Ian Flanagan)

Friend of Mine

Where did she go?
Where did she go?
She left this world so fast
A thousand tears I cried
Oh Debra you were a friend of mine

She died on a spring day
She died on a spring day
I remember taking the call
She was looking down from the sky
Oh Debra you were a friend of mine

They say the clouds parted for you
They say the clouds parted for you
You wrestled with your demons
The devils burned you down inside
Oh Debra you were a friend of mine

Oh, I still think of you
Oh, I still think of you
Every time I hear your name
It breaks me down inside
Oh Debra you were a friend of mine
Oh Debra you were a friend of mine

Million Miles

Cashed my check today…think I’ll be leaving town
Leaving for a awhile…..
Close your eyes and stay as I’m a million miles away
A million miles from here
But I am a million miles away from you

Lay me down to sleep close the curtains to dark skies
I’ll drop you a line
Close your eyes and stay as I’m a million miles away
A million miles from here
But I am a million miles away from you

Take the boat across to the muddy river’s side
And lay down in the sand
Close your eyes and stay as I’m a million miles away
A million miles from here
But I am a million miles away from you

Movin On

Mary said “My time here is done”
As she walked out the door  and into the setting sun
Drove down main street past the broke down motel
Pawned off her wedding ring she’s on a highway to hell

Tore his picture in pieces as the fell on the ground
A storm in the distance where this lost soul is bound
Coffee’s spilling tires burning through the night
She reached New Mexico by the dawn of the first light

CHORUS
She said “I’ve got to keep movin on”
Sing me a sad, sad song
Don’t cry tears for me  hold in your pain
Someday this song will remain
Someday this song will remain

Waking up to a man she does’nt even know
Protecting secrets of a lost love she can’t show
Gave up on a life she thought would be so hard
Husband, house, white fence circling the yard

CHORUS

Outlaw on the Run

I shot that old dog down last night
Put him in his place
He won't be coming around here no more
To show his scared face

Went to bed last night
With a pistol in my hand
Dreamed I saw a dead man lying in the street
With his blood on my hands

CHORUS:
I've burned my bridges down I've got nowhere to run
They're following my paper trail
I'm an outlaw on the run

Drive as fast as I can
South to Mexico
Out in that Painted Desert
Bury his body with his soul

Abandoned that old truck on a road
Just south of Juarez
Listen to the Federalis
Just do as he says

CHORUS

Kitchen Blues

Woke up this morning and I am feeling blue
Woke up this morning and I am feeling blue
Walked out into my kitchen and I have them kitchen blues

Struggle for a nickel struggle for a dine
Struggle for a nickel struggle for a dine
When the blues overtakes me I’ll be walking down the line

Woke up this morning and I am feeling blue
Woke up this morning and I am feeling blue
Walked out into my kitchen and I have them kitchen blues

Walked out into my kitchen and I have them kitchen blues
Walked out into my kitchen and I have them kitchen blues
Walked out into my kitchen and I have them kitchen blues

The River

Does anyone know, the way to the river? I need it touch its voice its own
Standing here on the banks of the San Lorenzo, looking into a dark murky pool
Ripples come and ripples go, they all lead to the same place
Throwing stones, watching them land in the eddy, never making it downstream

Chorus
The last is come, its here to stay I want to go I want to stay and all I miss is this
old river
The truth is told let it be known, it comes and goes like ebb and flow and all I
miss is this old river

She always said, bury me beneath the old river, we used to sit and watch
currents collide
Down from here you can see the mouth of the river, as it opens to the see
Birds fly on by fly away from the banks, as the water moves on by
Close your eyes and hear the sounds of the river as it rushes to meet its fate

Chorus

26

Spent my life in the Santa Cruz Mountains
Where them tall redwood trees grow
Spent some time down by the ocean
Fell asleep to the sounds of the sea

Parents divorced when I was 11
Did’nt understand the significance of it
We were ping-ponged back and forth my brother and I
Somebody had to take the fall

I’ve been homeless ever since
The word home means nothing to me
I’ve shed a thousand tears since then
Living in a world without sincerity

26 and still wandering
searching to truth, love, and prudence
don’t know where I am going
god knows where I’ve been

some say you don’t get a second chance
you have deal with the hand you’ve been dealt
I have a full house and that’s all right with me
Looking at the flowers and how they wilt

Downtown

Sunday night at 8 pm and the stores are all closed
Take a drive to your house and the lights are out
And your gone gone gone

You used to talk and I used to drive
We used to light up those city lights
Walking down the those old city streets
With a girl in my arm and its gone gone gone…

CHORUS
She said “take me downtown” and lets dance in the rain
Take me downtown and it will never be the same

Down on old Cooper Street
We used to hear the band the play
As we watched the world pass us by and it passed us by
And now it’s gone gone gone

They used to burn one down
At the ole saint george hotel
There was music in the air and love in the street
And it’s gone gone gone

CHORUS
